After a month of horrendous hours at work, spouse decided I needed a day off. Nice, isn't it? So he told me to name the day and he would take off work so I could do whatever I wanted.
I couldn't figure out what I wanted to do! So many options!! Since my sister is in town, I thought it would be fun to go out to lunch and then see Eclipse. Besides that just shopping and and stuff like that.
The night before I got in bed at 10:30 so looking forward to the next day! But oh, the ironies of life! My day started early. Here's a rundown of "MY Day" starting at midnight:
12:00: #2 woke up me and told me she had a bad dream. I cuddled her for a few minutes and sent her off to bed.
12:30 #1 woke me up and told me he had a stomach ache. I cuddled him for a few minutes and sent him back to bed.
1:30 #1 woke up staying his stomach really hurt and was literally screaming crying (he's not a good sick kid!). He was also standing right next to my bed--I told him to run for the bathroom. Spouse finally got up and ran him to the toilet where he threw up.
2:30 #1 woke up again crying. He had gotten to the bathroom himself but threw up all over the counter and the bath mat. He said he still had to throw up, so he sat down on the toilet and started to throw up on the floor. I got him up and made him face the toilet and he said, "Mom, I'm sick!" I think what he really meant was, "A little sympathy, mom?" Not my finest moment, but honestly--just throw up in the toilet!! Anyway, so I had him change his pajamas and got him off to bed. Then I did a load of laundry for the throw-up-bath-mat. By the time I got back to bed I was a little wired and couldn't sleep.
3:00: Decide to check my e-mail on my phone while I was awake. I got an e-mail from my bank saying I had overdrawn by $1100! Yikes! I went downstairs to my computer to look up my accounts and realize I wrote mortgage checks from my wrong account. So I do some transfers so all my checks would clear. So dumb.
3:45: Finally get back to sleep.
4:00: #2 wakes up to throw up again. I hit spouse from my side of the bed and tell him it's supposed to be MY day and he needs to take a shift. Yeah, another burst of attitude from me. He tells me he feels like HE'S going to throw up. arrgggh.
4:01: Beginning to realize that MY Day may not be my day after all! :(
4:45: #2 wakes up crying with a bloody nose. A bloody nose? I think this is a first in our family. I clean up her face and hands and sit and hold a tissue over her nose until it stops bleeding. I go to check out her sheets and decide the spot of her blood on her pillowcase can wait until morning. I tell her that there is a tiny spot of blood on her pillowcase, but that we can leave it until morning--I only like to do ONE load of laundry in the middle of the night.
5:10: #2 comes in and says, "Mom--I think I figured out how the blood got on my pillowcase?" Me: "You DID? How?" By this time the night was almost comical--I had to laugh. #2: "I was laying on my side and the blood came out of my nose and dripped right on to the pillow." Me: "You are very clever. I bet that IS how it got there. Now go back to bed!"
5:15: I decide that it would be easier to get up and run and go to boot camp than stay at home in my bed where I might have to deal with more messy emergencies!
5:30: Run with friends and have the moral dilemma of what to tell spouse. Either: 1. "So you're sick? Deal with it! I took care of kids every day for MONTHS while I was throwing up and pregnant and I couldn't call in sick to anyone! Now you know what it feels like!!" 2. "Too bad you're sick. I'll help you out a bit, but still go on with my day for half of it." 3: "I'm so sorry you're sick. I know how that feels and always wish I could just lie in bed all day when I feel like that. You stay in bed and I'll cancel my plans."
6:50: Arrive home from boot camp expecting the worst news from spouse--he tells me he feels fine and go ahead with my day. (I think he has a weak stomach for the smell of vomit.) Hooray!! What I'm really glad about is that I didn't have to make the choice and see what kind of person I really am. Now If only I can stay awake...
7:00: I get in the shower and take the longest shower I have ever taken. I let the water fall for a VERY long time because no one is waiting for me to get out!
7:30: I get out of the shower and get my box of lotion/makeup stuff and have fun doing all the things I don't have time for: face mask, nose strips, cellulite cream, etc. All that free stuff you always get when you buy makeup. Then I finish getting ready.
8:45: Leave the house and run by the bank and go get a pedicure. So relaxing! I got the works with callous removal and hot stones. I read a book the whole time and didn't worry about being social. Aaahhh!
10:30: Go shopping with my cousin for jeans--I did find a decent pair but decided not to get them that day. Still waiting to lose 10 pounds...One day I'll go back! But it was fun to just wander and look at jeans and jewelry and stuff.
12:00 We met at Crackers with sisters and cousin and have a delightful meal--it was fabulous to not be in a hurry! We lingered over our meals and chatted about Team Jacob vs. Team Edward. :)
2:00: We went to Ross to look around, and I found a pair of my favorite exercise pants! Wahoo!
3:00: Eclipse! I enjoyed it the second time. I didn't love it, but it was fun to do something completely frivolous.
5:30: Went to my mom's for a few minutes of down time (and to avoid a tearful goodbye).
6:30: Met my brother-in-laws and sister-in-law for dinner at Texas Roadhouse.
8:30: Brought dinner home to my fabulous husband and watched a show with him and ate an incredible treat that my visiting teacher had brought by.
What a day! I was dead tired, but it really did turn out to be MY day. Thanks, honey. You're the best!!!!
